Research for this evening, while I watch The Butterfly Effect on Film4, is the ability of airgun (or BB gun) pellets to puncture skin.

Apparently, skin penetration can be achieved at a velocity of about 75-100 m/s (245-330 ft/s), depending on the pellet calibre. Pellets can penetrate the eye at velocities as low as 40 m/s (130 ft/s). Basic airguns, including those sold as toys in the US, supposedly have “very low” muzzle velocities—the velocity of the pellet as it leaves the gun—of around 83 m/s (275 ft/s).

And they’re playing an ad for the MacBook Air. Phew. Thin.

About 730 words Wednesday night, motivating the aforementioned research. My only remaining question is, when will the US catch up with the rest of the world and move to metric?
